Story from Origin: The Buginyanya Community Zone is one of the 10 community zones Mountain Harvest works with upon Mount Elgon. Within, we have organized a farm group named Bumugibole. This farm group has access to a suite of services that bolster the ecosystem of their coffee businesses, but also the farmers' livelihoods. These services highlight income diversification, regenerative agriculture, financial literacy, and quality-focused coffee training and processing infrastructure. As farmers access this suite of farmer services, the farmer and farmland become more resilient. In all, the community zone has accessed 190 kgs of quality beans for nitrogen-fixing of soil and income diversification, 100 macadamia seedlings, 200 avocado seedlings, 20 beehives, access to Mountain Harvest's internally managed microfinance and loans program, and over 72 trainings spanning across the services, including access to veterinary services for their farm animals.
