French Press
Metrics based on an 8 cup press.
- Warm up your French Press by rinsing it with hot water. This helps maintain the temperature while brewing for best extraction.
- Measure 55g of coarse ground specialty coffee.
- Discard the hot water and add coffee into the empty press. Start your timer as soon as you add hot water. Fill your press with 800g of water. Saturate all the grounds, making sure that there are no dry spots.
- Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break the top layer of the coffee and stir.
- Put the top on and allow the coffee to brew without pressing it down.
- Extraction is complete at 5 minutes. Firmly push the press all the way down.
- Pour coffee into a carafe immediately to avoid over extraction. If the coffee sits on the grounds too long, it will continue to extract and will become bitter. Enjoy!
French Press Cold Brew
Metrics based on an 8 cup press.
- Measure 110g of coarse ground coffee.
- Add coffee into a clean french press. Fill press with cold or room temp water.
- Steep in the refrigerator for 18 hrs.
- After 18 hrs, use a wooden spoon or spatula to break the top layer of the coffee and stir.
- Firmly push the press all the way down, and you're ready to serve. Enjoy!
Helpful Hints
Ordering Pre-Ground coffee? No worries, our "Coarse" grind setting works best for this brew method.
Because of the longer steep times and more porous filter in a French Press you can get some coffee sediment, especially towards the bottom of your press. If you prefer a cleaner cup of coffee, try a pour over, Chemex, or paper filter brew method!
