10-4 Farmer’s Initiative

The 10-4 Farmers Initiative was created out of a need that founders Bryce & Erica Roszell saw in coffee farming communities while living in Laos. The name is two-fold; 10-4 can be read as 10% for farmers, or 10-4 as code meaning “understood” or “message received”.  It is important to us that any assistance given is rooted in an interconnectedness that allows for open communication, so well-intentioned actions don’t become unwelcome involvement.

Coffee farming is often a multi-generational trade passed down through families, but far too often the wages don’t meet the needs of farmers. Not only do we carefully source coffee to ensure everyone is getting a fair share, but we also decided to do a little bit extra. Through this initiative we give 10% of all 12oz bag sales, wholesale and retail alike, back into coffee farming communities. Most frequently, we fund clean water filers through Terra Clear, but have also supported producer equipment subsidies, education, and emergency relief efforts as needed.

To date, the 10-4 Farmers Initiative has provided an estimated 4,805,781 liters of clean drinking water paired with sanitation, hygiene, and child rights education through TerraClear in Laos, as well as emergency and aid relief in El Salvador and Laos.
